If you are sharing a computer with another person, you might end up with a messy desktop. Each user will create his own shortcuts or set up his own wallpaper. To avoid difficult situations, you could use Gerico to customize and save multiple desktops. In this way, each user will have his own set of icons and he will be able to activate his personal desktop with a single click.

The application is available in English and French and its setup file comes in a ZIP archive, which is only 297 KB large. Installing Gerico is a straightforward procedure which does not include advanced settings. Unfortunately, the software is not compatible with later Windows versions, like Vista or Windows 7.

The controls you find on Gerico's interface allow you to create different user profiles and select them from a drop menu. A profile can be customized on a separate window, which contains options for selecting text and background colors, changing shortcut overlay icons and choosing what icons to hide. You may target your personal shortcuts and when your profile is not active, your icons will be hidden. Additionally, you can select a different wallpaper. Just like your icons, the wallpaper will be applied only when you activate your user profile.

When you are done customizing your profile, you can hit a button, on the main interface, to save it. User profiles can be password protected as well, so you can make sure that no one will have access to your shortcuts. The Restore button, located next to the Save option, will apply your personal settings immediately. This is also a good way to back up your desktop settings. If you delete an icon by mistake or you can not find your favorite wallpaper, hit the Restore button again and your desktop will look just like before saving it.

You may also use Gerico if you need to work with different applications. Instead of cluttering your desktop with icons, you could save your shortcuts in different profiles and activate them when needed. The main interface presents a series of global settings as well. You just need to click one or more check boxes to authorize hidden desktop icons, restore them at startup, password protect the application itself and more.

Pros

You can save numerous desktops, with different icons or wallpapers and switch from one to another with a single click. The application does not use too much disk space or resources and it is very easy to use.

Cons

Gerico does not work properly on modern Windows versions. If you are tired of arranging your icons over and over again, Gerico will help you save different desktop settings and apply them instantly.
